April Shout-Outs!!!

Us_bullhorn_2Welcome to a new monthly feature on WholeHearted Life called "Shout-Outs!!!". I’ve been thinking a lot lately about people who get "it" done…

What is "it"? "It" is whatever "it" is and there are some people that are just willing to do WHATEVER IT TAKES to make sure that "it" gets done here on a weekly basis. For these people it doesn’t matter what "IT" is, they will do it for JESUS and for the vision of hyde park!

I often sing the praises of those who work directly with me, members of the band, worship leaders, choir members, Eddie D. (i even talk occasionally about the guys up in the booth who make us sound great and keep our services running smoothly week-in and week-out). The people I want to give a shout-out to today are those who I don’t often mention – people like:

  • Penny Blaine, Joe Davis and the Kidz Konnection Krew. These guys and girls make me laugh whenever I have the opportunity to minister with them but even more important is the fact that they make our kidz laugh all the while teaching them timeless lessons  in a way that ministers on the kidz level. This Krew (you like the hip "k"?) puts together approximately 40 programs per year, all on a week to week basis (which means they perform 80 times per year) – it’s tough! And many times have a hard time even getting to worship with us because of things that need to happen BEFORE the next group comes in.
  • Our Kidz Place Team. This ministry, headed up by Kim Campbell, make our kidz Sunday’s special. I can’t think of any ministry more important than one that teaches the principals of the scriptures to our children. Thanks goes out to all of you in this ministry!
  • Our Guest Services Team. Laura Sampson, Mary Dahl, Chuck Smith, Marilyn Britt, Ellen Babson head up this team that is so important to who we are as a church. They along with parking lot extrodinaire, my man David (Old Skool) Lovette, remind us that every week is someone’s 1st week at hyde park!.
  • The ROC Cafe’ Crew. This ministry, headed up by Hubert Waddell, sets a great tone for Sunday’s at hyde park. Hubert and Ray Britt are the 1st people I normally see at hyde park on Sunday morning. There are a lot of people who make the cafe’ click on Sunday’s.
  • I’ve gotta throw someone in from the music ministry – Ralph Shomaker. Ralph organizes and pulls all the music that you hear on Sunday’s. Were it not for Ralph our musicians would still be suffering from someone pulling and organizing music who hates it (that would be me grin ). What Ralph does for our ministry is literally immeasurable. I literally could not go back to the way things used to be and still perform on the level that we do week-in and week-out.

There are so many more people who could make this list – it might be you and maybe you’ll be getting a shout-out in May! Do me a favor – shoot these people an email or a card and let them know how much you appreciate what they do!

Do you Facebook?

Facebook_imagesWell, do you have one? What’s the big deal? How does it work?

Facebook is a free "social networking tool" that can be used to stay in touch with people all over the world.

According to Wikipedia,

The free-access website allows users to join one or more networks, such as a school, place of employment, or geographic region to easily connect and interact with other people. Users can post messages for their friends to see, and update their personal profile to notify friends about themselves.

I have quite a few friends on Facebook and it grows by the day but here’s a few things I’ve found interesting about it…

  • I’ve gotten back in touch with people lately whom I had lost contact with. Facebook is so huge that everyone’s joining. I’ve enjoyed getting feedback on where different friends are and what they’ve been up to.
  • The updates help me catch a glimpse of other’s daily lives. I love the status update section (especially the ones of those who update a few times per day) because I have the opportunity to look into their lives and what they’re experiencing. Whenever I log on I go to the homepage so i can get a quick update of what everyone has been up to "today".
  • I get to see what they’ve been up to. The photos, videos and posts let me see them, their families, their interests…who they now are.

I know, I know…it’s just another thing that everyone will forget about soon but in the meantime…

I’M ENJOYING THE OPPORTUNITY TO FOLLOW YOUR LIVES AND CATCH A LITTLE GLIMPSE OF WHO YOU "REALLY" ARE.

If you haven’t joined but do, add me to your friend list. What are you waiting for? (ps – i expect a bunch of new "friends" by the end of today!)

New Music for May 4th

A "new song" for the last weekend of "Made" – a version of the old hymn by Frances R. Havergal, "Take My Life":

Take my life and let it be consecrated Lord, to thee.
Take my moments and my days, let them flow in ceaseless praise.
Take my hands and let them move at the impulse of thy love.
Take my feet and let them be swift and beautiful for thee.

Take my voice and let me sing always, only for my king.
Take my lips and let them be filled with messages from thee.
Take my silver and my gold not a might would I withhold.
Take my intellect and use every power as you choose.

::Chorus::
Here am I, all of me.
Take my life, it’s all for thee.

Take my will and make it Thine it shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart it is thine own; it shall be thy royal throne.
Take my love, my Lord I pour at your feet its treasure store
Take myself and I will be ever, only all for thee,
Take myself and I will be ever, only all for thee.

Sunday Nite

April_27_002Today was a great day at hyde park!

I have to admit that I AM BEAT!!! I mean, I’m usually tired on Sunday nite, but tonite I am beyond my normal feeling…

I had no time to rest today – I went right from 3 back-to-back services to a few minutes meeting new people at our New Attenders Class. I left there and headed to Rowland for my nephew, John Mark’s, birthday party at my sister and brother-in-law’s home. I left there and headed back to Lumberton just in time for CrossOver "PARENT’S INVASION" (more on that in a minute). I’m hurting, but I’m thankful for the "experiences" that I’ve had today.

  • The reason I preached today was two-fold: 1. Preacher was leading our New Attenders Class  (FAITHTrac 101) in the ROC and 2. he was returning from a few days away.
  • Brandon led worship today. The reason that he ended up in that position was that Steven (who was scheduled to lead) ended up having to take an impromtu trip to his hometown in Alabama because of an illness in his family. Great job stepping up to the plate, Brandon.
  • Rhonda, Lisa and Melanie did a tremendous job on the skit today – did that not set up the message in an unbelievable way. Did it not speak to you?
  • And speaking of setting up the message… Charlie, Cyndi and our band did a great job on "Who am i?" (which i felt really spoke to the feeling that many of us have regarding sharing our experiences).
  • And speaking of the message… for me, it really felt like it "clicked". I’d be lying if I didn’t feel like one of the services made me feel as if i "stunk-up" the place – i don’t believe i did – they just seemed to be struggling today. On the other hand, we had 2 more services that just really locked-in with me… I believe that JESUS challenged all of us, together, to step out and take risks based on our experiences.
  • The power of JESUS was alive in the 11:11 service…mulitple people giving their hearts (and hopefully their lives) to JESUS. WE RAN OUT OF NEW BELIEVER BAGS – go God!!
  • Tonite i experience the 1st Crossover "Parent’s Invasion"April_27_007 (check out the insert picture of Dr. Joey Bell after playing the game "What Would You Do for a Buck?") What did Dr. Bell do "for a buck"? He drank "Shake from a Sock" – literally. What you see is a picture of him after getting strawberry shake all over him – he wore more than he drank.
  • We experienced Crossover Games, the Crossover band leading worship, videos and a message from Brandon from their series, "How to Annoy your Parents" where Brandon challenged the kids and the families to take a new step for JESUS. It all ended with Brandon inviting parents and kidz to come to the altar and pray…it was touching to see the families on their knees together.
  • April_27_015Roger and Keyna played the game "Bannana BlowOut"…the insert pic is him with pantyhose on his head trying to spit bannana through the pantyhose (note: it doesn’t come through grin ).
  • I AM ALREADY PUMPED ABOUT NEXT WEEKEND!
  • The skits for the "Made" series have all been directed by Rhonda Lovin. Rhonda has really shown during this series that she’s not just a great singer and a worship leader – she knows how to bring our messages "to life" – thanks, Rhonda, for all you do to make Sunday’s special.

OK, that’s it – i’m going to bed! See you this week on WholeHearted!

Kobe Jumps Car (is it real?)

Do you think this is real? Now, watch former NBA star Kenny Smith respond (hilarious!).

Sometime ya just need to laugh! grin
