Sunday Nite (Guest Blogger)

Hey everybody! I heard that you had a tremendous day today. If you were at hyde park you know that I wasn’t with ya’ll today and since I wasn’t I asked one of my favorite hyde park bloggers, Bree, if she would fill in for us today. Check back with me all week for my new online series, “Questions that I’m asking myself” – I think you’ll find it challenging and interesting (at least i hope so!). Hello church!

Hope everyone’s weekend was blessed. We had a BLAST at church today.
Music was great, choir was spiritually cranked and the service(s) were
filled with hungry people ready to feast on God’s Word and fellowship.
I saw a LOT of new faces today— A LOT! Welcome!

Got to speak with a few people in the ROC this morning. But my most
memorable conversation was with Brandon. He is so full of energy and
has such a sense of humor. Those poor doctors and nurses on staff
at SRMC had a job keeping Brandon calm from his antics while waiting
for little Kynadie (pronounced KENNEDY
not Can-ay’-dee from what I have already heard it has been pronounced)
 I just wanted to congratulate Christy and Brandon on their newest
addition. Fatherhood is already exciting him. We love you!

The 9:51 service was amazing with Andy
Stanley’s version of how we should be the little ‘i’. He spoke of
trying not to be the big “I” in many different situations, not just in
the marriage part. His scripture references have left me wanting more.
I see a deeper dig in the Word this week from the passages he gave us
today. (Check my blog later this week…I may expound on what else I
found out on those specific scriptures)

The 11:11 service I got to meet some excited kids on
their journey with  the Super Heroes such as: The Forgivenator, Guts
Girl, Captain Compassion and Super Cool. They were loving it! My son,
Drew had already seen it in the 8:21 service yet STILL did not want to
leave after I walked in to pick him up. So I sat there with him and
actually learned a new term from Andy. Ever heard of a HOSPER??? Think
on it…tell me what YOU think it is. I think most teachers would LOVE
it if their kids would hosper in class. HAHAH! Andy and the crew are so
“MADE” for this calling. These people love kids and love seeing kids
learn and love Jesus! It was great.

So, I Changed My Mind…

I have Part 3 of my "What Would You Do" series "in the can" (you can read Tuesday's post here – here's Wednesday's - make sure to read the comments, they're WAY BETTER than the posts themselves :) ). I just got home from Wednesday nite rehearsals and really feel led to talk about something else so maybe you'll see it somewhere else. I'm just really turned off to the subject that i had already written about – it disgusts me and I'm done with it for now. But…

I am really, really excited about what I experienced today and tonite.

Great rehearsals tonite for the weekends services. Not only is the music gonna be smokin' this Sunday but we're gonna have 2 great messages. Pastor will preach the message, "Walking with God" at the 8:21 service. If you attend 8:21, get up a little earlier, get prayed up, ask the Lord to fill you with His love and joy this weekend so you will get the full hyde park worship experience! Then…

…9:51 and 11:11 will experience the last week of Andy Stanley's message, "It Takes 3". It's been fun being a "North Point Campus" for the past 2 weeks. I have totally enjoyed this series with you!

Also…don't forget that next weekend, July 6th will be our "ONE" Service at 10am. A few times per year on holiday weekends we do just one service, bringing everybody into one room. We do extended music and we all have the opportunity to worship with people that we normally miss due to our multi-service schedule. It's gonna be the bomb!

Great community involvement tonite with our "Summer of Service". If you weren't involved, I'm telling you that you're missing out! Tonite we saw: 

  • crews doing yard work for a person unable to do it.
  • 2 Street Teams giving out drinks, popsicles and interacting with the people of our community.
  • teams washing winsheilds at area gas stations while people gas up. (Madie did this and LOVED IT tonite – she said she can't wait to do it again!)
  • a team installing window unit A/C's for someone without A/C.
  • people doing some painting.

Lastly, after our great band/choir rehearsal we had a sweet time of prayer. "God, You are SO good! You have blessed us so much! Thank You for giving us the opportunity to minister in the area that I call home – blow people's minds with Your truth – draw people to you, in JESUS' Name!

What Would You Do? (Part 2)

Question-mark Today we will continue with our "WWYD" series, if you missed yesterday's entry you can read it here. Each day I'm presenting a true-to-life situation (something that really happened) and we'll discuss by sharing what you would have done in the situation when you add a comment by pressing the bottom "comment" tab. Here's today's situation…

I have a friend who attended a hyde park service a couple of weeks ago. On this particular Sunday he was sitting with some family who attends a different service than he does. As the service began a young family came into the worship experience and sat on the pew in front of he and his family. One of the members of his family commented that he thought that they were new as he had never seen them with us before. The family had some children, one of which was pretty young (in the 2-ish range). On the same pew with the family was a person who normally attends that service and according to my friends family member, normally sits where they were on this particular day.

As the service went on the youngest child was having a hard time staying still. While the child's mother was trying her best to control the situation, the person next to her would look at the mom with an obviously aggravated/disgusted look (you know, the old, "can't you control that kid?!?" look). This happened a number of times until the mother eventually took the child and left the worship center, leaving the husband and other child, never to return for the remainder of the service.

My friend and his family member were discouraged because of the harshness and insensitivity of the regular hyde park attender and the fact that, to the best of their knowledge, the family hasn't returned (they have looked and haven't recognized them yet). I know that this is an assumption, but the hyde park attender put more pressure on an already stressful situation. That makes me sad.

Let's suppose that you were the hyde park attender who was sitting next to this new family and experienced this. What could you have done to help instead of heap on pressure? What Would You Do? Discuss.

“We’re Not Gossiping, We’re Networking!”

Gossip"I've got something that I need you to pray about…" 

I bet you have been invited before to participate in a discussion where the person starts the conversation with that phrase then TRASHES a person to you? They do it as if they have a concern for the person that they're talking about. Yeah, we can tell how much you care for them by the way that you talk about them behind their back. We can tell how much you care because you'll talk to me about them and you haven't even talked to them. Your compassion is mind boggling! :)

There's another word for diguising your concern with "prayer": Gossip. (Proverbs 11:13, Proverbs 16:28, Proverbs 20:19, Proverbs 26:20, Rom 1:29, 2Cor 12:20, 1Tim 5:13, 3John 1:10 YEAH! God talks about gossipers alot!)

Here's the scenario: A person (who seems to be a leader in their church) comes up to you and wants to talk about everything that they think is wrong with a church (be it yours or someone else's) do you listen, or do you ask them the most important question: Have you spoken to him/her/them about this or are you just trying to win me over to your way of thinking?

Gossip is talking negative about something to someone in which they are neither the cause, problem or solution to the issue.

Listen to what Jesus' brother, James, wrote about the power of the tongue: 5Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

 9With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. 10Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. 11Can both fresh water and salt[a] water flow from the same spring? 12My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.  (James 3:5,6,9-12 NIV). Remember, when you talk junk about the church, you're talking trash about JESUS' bride.

So, knowing what you now know about gossip, if someone put you in this situation, "What Would You Do?". Discuss.

(by the way… before you give yourself a headache trying to figure out who I'm talking about, give yourself a break. I wrote this months ago when doing a little study on the subject of gossip – hence, all the scripture backup :). Seriously. No agenda here except to be used by Jesus to help people live WholeHeartedly – so live!! See ya tomorrow…)
