Song Story

This song has become "my song". I love it's words, it's melodies and most of all IT'S HOPE. The following is the story BEHIND the song – you gotta take 4 minutes and check this out:

 Now… here's the song:

Sunday Nite (on a Monday Morning)

What a beautiful beginning to our week! I never got around to posting yesterday's thoughts last night as I found myself catching up on some movies with my favorite lady. Here's what happened yesterday at hyde park:

  • Good day yesterday as we tackled the subject of "The Wall". We covered a lot of scripture (Acts 10) and as we did we saw angels, miracles, a vision from God, people following what God says and the explosive opening of the door of the church that would eventually lead to our (yours and mine) salvation. Powerful, powerful passage of scripture!
  • How open are we to God doing something that makes us uncomfortable if it will bring people to Him? I think that as we search our heart we will find that WE THINK that we are much more open than we actually are (that "We" includes me).
  • So we join our hearts together and pray: "God, help me to see Your plans regardless of my plans". If we would answer all of our doubts, questions and fears by actually believing and praying this… WOW! I believe there would be many miracles in this region.
  • Rhonda did an amazing job leading yesterday's services. As usual, I am so often reminded of how far God has allowed us to come in the area of our music. I thank JESUS for the leaders that He has given me the privilege of working and serving with.
  • Music yesterday was almost all off of our last CD, "Free" (with a few minor tweaks to arrangements): In Christ Alone, Sing to the King and Amazed. We haven't done amazed in quite a while – I was definitely loving that moment.
  • Moment of the morning for me: As we were singing "Amazed" in the 11.11 I was worshiping with my son, Matt; He was standing in front of me, his head leaning back on my stomach as we were singing together. I was singing the song: "You dance over me while I am unaware, You sing all around but I never hear the sound, Lord I'm amazed by You – how You love me"; As I was singing the words of the song and was "singing over" Matt I began to think that the love that I had for this little boy was SO huge – yet scripture says, it doesn't even begin to compare to the love that JESUS has for us… it was definitely an amazing moment in my life and another reminder of the great love of God.
  • We began organizing yesterday for our new volunteer initiative, "iServe". Josh Shelley is going to be overseeing day-to-day operations of the Guest Experience at hyde park and met with a few of our great servers yesterday morning. If you are interested in getting involved in helping make Sunday's the best day of our people's weeks, contact Josh:
  • Met some new people yesterday at hyde park and as usual, they fired me up! I love meeting people who are excited about becoming part of hyde park.
  • Remember, next Sunday will be our "ONE" service @ 10am. I love it when we try to get everybody in the building at the same time! We are expecting to have an amazing day – I know that Pastor is preparing to "bring it" as we look towards our future at hyde park. We will also celebrate the Lord's Supper together.
  • On the week after that we will begin our new schedule: 9am and 10:30am. I hope that the new schedule encourages all of you to connect in a deeper way. To those not currently in a group, to a bfg… to those not currently serving to becoming a part of "iServe"… to those not currently reaching out to your friends, family, loved ones and work associates – we pray that God would remind you that THEY NEED Him and that YOU are the way they will find Him. Hyde Park teams with you in that effort. Let's turn this community upside down for His glory!

SOS ’09 Begins Tonite!

Summer of service Every church in Lumberton knows that they should be involved serving our community. Knowing and doing, however, are 2 different things. We find ourselves talking a lot about reaching out those who are outside the walls of hyde park – summer of service is our corporate "action-point", it's the place where hyde park puts feet to our talk. This summer marks our 5th summer of serving Lumberton.

The odd thing about Summer of Service is that many hyde park people have thought in the past that they weren't qualified to do the projects we were participating in, so let me make this clear: ANYBODY CAN BE PART OF THE PROJECTS WE WILL DO – NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY. Each week we will tackle a new and different project that puts us out among our friends in Lumberton.

WHEN: tonite (Wednesday, July 24th) at 6:45
WHERE: The ROC Gym – hyde park church
WHAT: Winsheild Warriors (which means we're washing windows and giving out info at local service stations)

Look forward to serving with you!

HQ, Not Battlefield

Sometimes, because of human nature (the lay word for SIN) we fool ourselves into believing that the spiritual battles we find ourselves in take place at or in the church. At times there are certainly spiritual battles that take place at the church – battles for deliverance from sin and bondage, battles for righteousness. But for too many believers in the church today I have observed through the years that the church has become the battlefield.

10Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. 12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

The building where the church meets should be the command headquarters, not the battlefield. Your congregational renewal can take place here; you can get a refill of love, inspiration, excitement and fellowship. At the church you can talk about Jesus with like-minded people, sing about Jesus, pray to Jesus…

When you come in humbleness, brought about by a heart that is broken because of your sin or the direction of your life, a heart that is truly surrendered to God, you can be filled with power that allows you to accomplish things in this world that most people only dream about.

Personally we're in a daily battle for…
  1. Control of our thoughts and plans: without a plan we meander through life reacting to things that happen. Living this way is the equivalent to perpetually playing defense – you don't have many opportunities to score if all you do is play defense because you're too busy trying to keep the other team from scoring. May our mind daily be surrendered to and controlled by Christ – may He lead us and set the agenda for our days.
  2. For the souls we come into contact with: how easy is it to not think spiritually about the people we come into contact with? "God, help us to see that every person we meet and converse with is a person that You gave Your life for".

It's too easy to be distracted by the wrong things – help us to be good soldiers and see God's plan in our days that we might react appropriately.

Sunday Nite

Happy Father's Day to all of our Dad's! Today at hyde park we celebrated Jesus, Fathers, Families and we did it all hyde park style. It's late – 11:11 PM (coincidental time, huh?) and just wanted to touch base with you about all we saw today.

  • Today we finished up our "All in the Family" Series with a message about (guess it), Dad's. The Father is SO, SO important in the lives of children. Many of the societal ills we experience today have their roots in a poor family system, specifically the absence of a father in the home.
  • You could tell it was Father's Day attendance wise… one of the drawbacks to being a younger church is that many of your younger people go home to be with Dad on Father's Day.
  • Congratulations to our Dad's who won the great give-a-way prizes today!
  • Any guy can be a father, it's a biological function but it takes a real man to be a dad! Thanks to all of you dad's who love your kids and wives and understand that you've gotta be "in there doing life" with them!
  • Had the privilege to lead a young man to Christ during the 9:51 service today!!! We met in the front lobby and went to talk. This young man came to find Jesus today (literally) and I am thankful that although he has no history with hyde park he felt that HP was a great place to meet Jesus!
  • I pray often that God will lead those who have a desire to know Him to us.
  • Went to my Dad's house for lunch after church. Great to have a great dad in my life. Also great to see how much he loves my kids… that makes it even more special.
  • For those of you who have been praying and asking: Dad is doing very well in his recovery from back surgery. He went back to the doctor Thursday and they were pleased but told him not to change anything for 3 more weeks (he was disappointed in this). I don't think it's that big a deal, he needs to take it easy – i'm also not the one basically confined to the house for 3 more weeks.
  • Spent the evening with friends from Chris Smith's Bible Fellowship Group – eating, stories, fun and swimming. Just seeing Chris do "the screener" is worth it all!!!
  • Don't know what "the screener" is? You're gonna have to ask Chris!!!
  • Music today at hyde park was "UP" as we were trying to keep it "man-singable" (is that a new term?): Blessed Be Your Name (Matt Redman), I Am Free (Hyde Park "Free" CD), Our God Saves (Paul Baloche). We closed the service with the song that has been the theme of this series, "Surrender". Great music for a great service!
  • Great to have Bree back with us onstage this morning after a brief time away leading up to and following the birth of little ms. Lydia.
  • Just have to mention to you how thankful I am for the way that the Lord has stretched me these last few months… I feel like I am on the verge of a breakthrough – a breakout time in my life. Please pray that my ears and heart are tuned to His voice and that I will follow Him WholeHeartedly.
  • Already pumped out of my mind about next Sunday!!! I believe God is going to ROCK OUR WORLD!

Below you will find our roll-in video from this morning (facebook readers go here) I am tired and ready for bed… see you on here tomorrow?!?
