Bring What You Have and Watch Him Use It

It was a miracle indeed.

[15] Now when it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a desolate place, and the day is now over; send the crowds away to go into the villages and buy food for themselves.” [16] But Jesus said, “They need not go away; you give them something to eat.[17] They said to him, “We have only five loaves here and two fish.” [18] And he said, “Bring them here to me. [19] Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass, and taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing. Then he broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. [20] And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up twelve baskets full of the broken pieces left over. [21] And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children. (Matthew 14:15-21 ESV)

The disciples didn’t do the miracle. Jesus did the miracle. They brought Him what they had – which wasn’t adequate to get the job done – and HE used it.

He used them. He used them to do a miracle.

You probably think you have nothing to offer. Or what you DO think you have isn’t as good as that other person. Bring what you have. Bring what you have, offer it to Jesus along with yourself and watch Him work a miracle through you.

Jesus isn’t looking for the most talented people – He’s looking for the most willing people. Are you willing for Him to work through you? I challenge you – TODAY – say that prayer, make that call, take that step, follow through on that promise you made that you haven’t… DO something and allow God to use you.

The Real Marriage Tour is Coming!!!

It’s our birthday week so have a gift for you: We are so excited to announce that the REAL MARRIAGE TOUR is coming to Lumberton!!! Some of us had the opportunity to experience this last year and it was SO GOOD. I honestly thought, “I would do anything to be able to bring this not only to my church, but to my region where I see so many marriages hurting!”

“Real Marriage and the Truth about Sex, Friendship and Life Together” is an incredible event that will encourage, enlighten, and equip you in your romantic relationship whether you are married or single. In this event you will learn how Pastor Mark Driscoll and his wife, Grace, have navigated their marital journey through biblical teaching and humor.

Marriage is a wonderful gift, but it takes work, growth in Christ and patience to love the other more than ourselves. Single individuals will be ahead of the curve after hearing these truths that will transform their dating life and shape their future marriage.

We will be taking part in the LIVE simulcast coming from Springfield, MO. Here are the details:

WHEN: Friday, February 22nd 7pm – 11pm and Saturday morning, Feb. 23rd, 10am – 1pm
WHERE: Candy Sue’s Downtown Event Room
WHO: Anyone!!!
COST: $20 per person includes Meal on Friday night and the REAL MARRIAGE Conference booklet.

In the event Pastor Mark will be addressing key issues like:

  • Tough and good lessons learned from Mark and Grace’s story.
  • Dating – keys to success and failure.
  • Married people, guess what, you are supposed to ‘date your spouse’.
  • Friendship in marriage – it is a simple idea, but often difficult to maintain.
  • Taking out the Trash – You will have to attend to learn how.
  • Sex as god, gross or gift?
  • Can We __________?

This isn’t just for Vertical Church but anyone who could use some encouragement in their marriage. Registration starts tomorrow ONLINE and will be limited to the first 150 people so get your tickets early.

BIG C, little c.

Begins this weekend at Vertical Church

As we enter our 2nd year of ministry to our region this weekend we recognize that God didn’t plant us here so we could be an island unto ourselves. Even if it is a cool island with cool music and cool, casual dress (grin). He has a plan and it’s not just about Sunday morning meetings… it’s about His glory in His world!

GOD PLANTED US HERE AS A DIFFERENT EXPRESSION OF HIS CHURCH POSITIONED TO HELP PEOPLE WHO DON’T LIKE CHURCH MEET GOD!

And HE is doing that!

This weekend, as we celebrate our 2nd birthday, I believe God will begin to encourage each of us in the part that we as individuals play in His plan. BIG C, little c. “BIG C is the Church, little c is me. What God does in this world He does as WE.”

Sunday Nite (January 27)

2 years ago today we were 1 week away from FINALLY launching Vertical Church. We set up, had a service with our volunteers and their family, had vKidz for “our kidz”… we practiced. We parked cars, sat people in the seats, made coffee, sang and preached. Truth is, we didn’t really know what to expect for the next week but we were on fire – and we KNEW that God had already done something amazing in us and through us.

Now, here we are on the eve of our 2nd birthday and what we have experienced for the last month is nothing short of miraculous. Bunches of people professing faith in Jesus, people fasting, praying and begging God to increase their faith. Record crowds coming to hear messages that are challenging their very lives and what they have believed.

I am so thankful that God called us out and allowed us to do this.

This will be a short one… I am SO tired tonight. I hope that you were with us, but if you weren’t, here’s Vertical Sunday nite:

  • Cannot believe next Sunday will be our 2nd birthday party!!! Do NOT BE LATE for service next Sunday! The whole thing will kick-off in a very special way.
  • Next week we begin our new series, “BIG C, little c”. I am truly believing this next series to be a life-changer for those open to walking in faith.
  • Today was our last week in “The Path”. Praying that as we corporately prayed, “Make me to know Your ways, O Lord. Teach me Your paths.” that we did so with all of our soul, mind and strength. Increase our faith, Jesus – make us more like You!!
  • UNBELIEVABLE how much spiritual attack people in our church have been under lately. Just a reminder that satan is hard at work destroying all that he can. It’s great comfort to remember that he is defeated, a liar, and has lost his grip on those who belong to the Son of God, Jesus.
  • Asking you to pray for one of the leaders of Vertical Worship, Robby Gaddy. He and his wife, Carol (vKidz Production) lost their home in a fire on Friday. It was so humbling to stand there and watch your friends home burn. It was also humbling to see him claim Romans 8:28 in that moment knowing that his God was still in control and trusting Jesus.
  • That being said, Our music was definitely under attack this morning. Not only did the fire take Robby out of commission this morning, Justin Mc, was sick with a stomach bug. Robby out, Justin out and no time to make the adjustment. THEY DID!!!! Vertical Worship is so incredible… there is no way that anyone experienced what they did this morning and thought that anything was other than what was planned. Incredible!
  • Vertical Worship this morning was led by Alison Carroll who did an outstanding job. Enjoying watching her grow as a leader. With Alison was John Astle on guitar, Christoph on bass, Andrew on drums and Jon Lloyd on guitar. Great to have JL with us onstage this morning doing what he does!
  • Today was vTeam appreciation day today. We celebrated by having another team come in on Saturday night at 10:30 to set up so our vTeams wouldn’t have to. That way on Sunday morning they came in and we had a great breakfast for them to enjoy. We celebrated our friendship and our love for Jesus. At the bottom there is a video of all of the stars on our wall, each one of which representing the name of a Vertical vTeam member. Can you believe that many people are serving at church!!!
  • THANK YOU!!!!
  • So many people today… pipe and drape almost came all the way down. It DID last week! So thankful.
  • Yeah… i’m thankful all those people are coming. But I am MORE thankful that God is moving in so many of their lives.
  • I LOVE MY CHURCH.
GONNA BE AN INCREDIBLE WEEKEND NEXT WEEKEND. DO NOT MISS IT FOR ANYTHING. I love you all.
