FYWBTG – Day 7

Pray: “Lord, open the eyes of my heart and help me to see what You want to teach me through this passage of scripture.”

Think / Meditate on the following verse: Isaiah 43:18“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. 19 See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.

Write these 2 short verses in your journal. In this passage God tells us not to dwell in our past, to forget those things that we regret. He wants us to know that HE is “doing a new thing”. What would “a new thing” in your life consist of spiritually.

Journal: What kind of things make you say, “I wish that I could start over”? Write them. Write about your biggest regrets in life. What areas of your life today could be and should be better? Write about it. Don’t rush – Let God guide your writing.

Pray: “God, make Yourself real to me. Awaken in me the possibility that with you I could start over again.”

The Awakening to Regret

Pray: “God, make yourself real to me. Awaken in me the possibility that with you I could start over again.”

16 This is what the LORD says– he who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters, 17 who drew out the chariots and horses, the army and reinforcements together, and they lay there, never to rise again, extinguished, snuffed out like a wick: 18“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. 19 See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland. 20 The wild animals honor me, the jackal
s and the owls, because I provide water in the desert and streams in the wasteland, to give drink to my people, my chosen,21 the people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise. Isaiah 43:16-21

FYWBTG – Day 6

Pray: “Lord, open the eyes of my heart and help me to see what You want to teach me through this passage of scripture.”

Think / Meditate on the following verse: Isaiah 55:1-2 (NIV) 1 ”Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.2 Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.

Hear the Word of the Lord saying, (same verses from the Message) “Are you penniless? Come anyway – buy and eat! Come, buy your drinks, buy wine and milk. Buy without money – everything’s free!” Think on this thought: God says, “Eat only the best, fill yourself with only the finest.” What do you know in your life that satisfies like that?

Journal: Does this world’s inability to satisfy your deepest longings make you want God more? Write about that. Describe how dissatisfaction and desire have moved you along in your search to find God.

You have prayed the same prayer for the past 5 days. It is very important NOT TO skim over this because it’s the same. This is the part you will struggle with: listening and thinking on what Jesus has said each day. Meditate/Think on those words before you close this time.

Pray: “God, make Yourself real to me. Awaken in me the ability to see that You are what’s missing from my life.”

FYWBTG – Day 5

Pray: “Lord, open the eyes of my heart and help me to see what You want to teach me through this passage of scripture.”

Think/Meditate on the following verse: 1 John 1:8 (NIV) 8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.

The bible makes it abundantly clear that we have all done wrong towards ourselves, others and especially, God. This same verse in the Message says, If we claim that we’re free of sin, we’re only fooling ourselves. A claim like that is errant nonsense.”
Ask yourself, based on this verse, “why do I feel like i DESERVE God’s forgiveness?” Write about it.

Journal: What are some of the hard things in life that have made you cry out in anguish, “Why God?!? Why would you allow this to happen?” Write about them.

If hardships and injustices have contributed to your sense of distance from God, write about how that has come about. If they have fueled your desire for God, write about that too.

Pray: “God, make Yourself real to me. Awaken in me the ability to see that You are what’s missing from my life.” Meditate/Think on those words before you close this time.

FYWBTG – Day 4

Pray: “Lord, open the eyes of my heart and help me to see what You want to teach me through this passage of scripture.”

Think/Meditate on the following verse: Eph 1:11 (the Message) 11 It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living,

Ask yourself, based on this verse, “what am I currently living for?” Write about it.
If “God had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living,” do you think the life you are living fulfills what God had in mind for our life?

Journal: Write the following question in your notebook: “Would you say that your life has a fulfilling purpose?” Yes or no? If you answered yes, what is that purpose? Write about it. If you answered no, write about the desire you feel for greater meaning and purpose in your life. Lastly, how does this desire motivate your search for God?

Pray: “God, make Yourself real to me. Awaken in me the ability to see that You are what’s missing from my life.” Meditate/Think on those words before you close this time.
